Overview

MarkHub24 conducted an expert learning session on “Design Thinking for Innovation & Creative Problem Solving” on 4 October 2026. The session was designed to introduce participants to the principles of design thinking and demonstrate how a structured, human-centred approach can be used to understand problems, generate ideas and develop innovative solutions.

The session brought together 97 participants, creating an engaging online learning environment with students and learners joining the discussion through Google Meet. The session received an overall rating of 4.8/5, reflecting a highly positive response from participants.

About the Session

The session was conducted by Dr. Komal Kapoor. Through the session, participants were introduced to design thinking as a practical framework for innovation rather than simply a creative exercise.

The discussion focused on the importance of understanding the people and problems at the centre of an innovation challenge. Participants were encouraged to look beyond obvious solutions and approach problems with curiosity, empathy and an open mindset.

A key framework discussed during the session was the five-stage design thinking process: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. The framework demonstrated how innovation can be approached systematically while still leaving room for creativity and experimentation.

Key Learning Areas

One of the central takeaways from the session was the importance of empathy in the innovation process. Understanding the experiences, needs and challenges of users helps innovators identify the real problem instead of making assumptions about what the problem might be.

The Define stage highlighted the importance of clearly articulating the problem that needs to be solved. A well-defined problem provides direction to the creative process and helps teams focus their efforts on meaningful challenges.

The session then moved towards Ideation, where participants explored the importance of generating multiple possibilities rather than immediately settling on the first solution. This stage emphasised the role of divergent thinking, creativity and openness to different perspectives.

The concepts of Prototyping and Testing demonstrated that innovative ideas do not need to be perfect from the beginning. Developing an initial version of an idea and testing it with users can provide valuable feedback, allowing the solution to be refined and improved.

Participant Engagement

The session witnessed strong participation, with 97 attendees joining the Google Meet session. The visual interaction during the session reflected participation from learners across different backgrounds and locations.

The combination of conceptual discussion and visual presentation helped make the subject accessible and practical. Participants were able to follow the design thinking framework while connecting it with the broader idea of innovation and creative problem solving.

The 4.8/5 session rating indicates that participants found the session valuable and relevant to their learning objectives. The positive feedback also reinforces the importance of providing learners with exposure to practical frameworks and expert-led discussions beyond traditional classroom learning.

Key Takeaways

Participants came away with an understanding that:

  • Innovation begins with understanding the problem and the people affected by it.

  • Empathy can help uncover deeper and often overlooked user needs.

  • Clearly defining a problem is essential before developing solutions.

  • Effective ideation involves exploring multiple possibilities and perspectives.

  • Prototyping allows ideas to be brought to life and evaluated.

  • Testing and feedback are essential for refining solutions.

  • Design thinking provides a structured approach to creative problem solving and innovation.

Conclusion

The MarkHub24 session on “Design Thinking for Innovation & Creative Problem Solving” successfully created a learning platform where participants could explore the connection between creativity, problem solving and innovation.

With 97 participants and an impressive 4.8/5 rating, the session was well received by the learning community. The session reinforced MarkHub24's objective of helping students and early professionals develop practical perspectives, frameworks and ways of thinking that can be applied to real-world marketing, business and innovation challenges.

The session concluded with participants being encouraged to apply design thinking beyond the classroom—to everyday problems, business challenges, customer needs and opportunities for innovation.
